HOW TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE?
Few years ago I was a completely different person. I already told you about the moment in my life when I decided to start living my life to the fullest and really became an architect of my own fortune. It was worth it. I am glad about who I am and what I have managed to achieve. :)
A decision to change my life was rather sudden, though the need of change was growing inside of me for some time. For a long time I have been thinking that what I needed to change was my work (corporation), my look (extra weight) or my day schedule. But then it came to me that all of these are only outside and what I really needed a change was my inside. I had to become a different person.
Most people are afraid of changes. They dream of shifting their life, but they won’t change anything, being afraid of what may happen. The fear of the unknown and the fear of facing our weaknesses are the reasons why we give up on our dreams and close ourselves in the safe shell of our own being. We are not living our life to the fullest, but at least we know what to expect of every single day. We know that we are able to deal with whatever our average life brings.
The change may affect many aspects of our lives. Even though each of us is different and we all have to face different challenges, the way change works is the same for us all.
Okay, so how to start the change in your life?
The first step toward change is the awareness. You need to realize that there is the need of change. You are reading this text so probably you are already there. Next step is to define the problem you need to cope with. Ask yourself a question: what is wrong with my life? This is where most people fail. Most of us believe that we need to change our life from the outside, when in fact the real need for change grows inside. Each change of the visible aspects must start from changing what’s hidden. This is the hardest part. To do it right, we need the examination of conscience:
– What do I want to achieve?
– What kind of person do I want to be?
– Why am I not this kind of person?
Set a goal and take the analysis one step deeper:
– Why haven’t I started realizing my goal yet?
– What stands in my way?
And what’s most important…
– Which of my character traits stop me from change?
– What is it in me that blocks the change?
It might be your shyness, insecurity or hesitancy. Think of your weaknesses and be critical about it. Don’t try to fool yourself that you do something right when in fact you are not. Don’t blame the others – try finding the fault in yourself! You don’t have to tell anyone about your discoveries. But you can’t live lying to yourself. Be a good and honest friend to yourself.
When you manage to define the problem, get to work. You know what you are doing wrong – start doing it right. You are not very assertive – start saying no. You are afraid of speaking loudly – let the others hear you. You are constantly hesitating – get a grip and start making choices!
And remember ripping the band-aid must be quick. Don’t postpone a change for tomorrow because you will never manage to do it… Tomorrow starts today… “Next Monday I’ll stop eating sweets” No! You will stop today. “Next week I’ll start running” No! Get your sports footwear on and go out now.
Decision to change your life might create some problems. But remember that most of them are in your head. The real change is happening inside you. Be persistent. Be honest with yourself about what you managed to accomplish. When you fall – rise and keep going. There is no shame in falling. The only shame is to fall and give up…
How to change your life?
First change yourself. Define the problem. Be honest with yourself. Act now. Don’t wait till tomorrow. Rise when you fall. And remember: as long as you fight, you are winning!
